 Dear parents,

We celebrated the New Life/Easter Festival at Nania. This year the celebration took us two days. On the first day, the teachers presented a puppet show about the friendship between a caterpillar and a girl. The children’s eyes were shining when they saw the puppet butterfly, which was the transformed caterpillar, dancing happily with the little girl. Later, they did a short presentation of New Life poems and songs.

On the second day, they started the day by colouring their Easter eggs upon arrival. They later brought home the coloured egg.

The highlight of second day was eggs hunting, we went out to hunt for the big and small Easter eggs in our garden during our outside playtime.  Children eagerly searched through the garden and happily piled up their ‘rewards’ in a basket. We were lucky that we had finished the egg hunting session before the rain started to fall. Those big eggs were served during lunch while small “eggs” were brought home together with their coloured big egg.

Perhaps some of you may have heard from your child that the mother bird and daddy bird came to Nania’s garden again this year to build a nest and lay eggs. Children observed the eggs and later the little birdies. They were amazed with the change and how fast the baby birds grew. One fine morning, the baby birds in our garden flew away and some children witnessed the magic moment. It was an amazing moment to see that. We would like to share this happiness with you through some photos.

For us, the teachers, it was a touching experience too. For about a month, we felt the love and care from the daddy bird and mummy bird to protect their eggs and later their babies. Animal like birds learn their special skills for surviving at a short time after birth. But our children need more time to develop and unfold their full potential. It is important task for us, the parents and the teachers, to create an environment and lifestyle that can protect and nurture the children’s development. We also need to be patient for them to develop their skills while we strive to be a worthy role model for them to imitate.

This year, we are glad that we could celebrate the Hari Raya with the children in Nania again. We sang the Hari Raya song, learnt how to “Salam”. Children were told that the Muslims fast for a month. They then sympathy to the poor people. They do charities, speak positive words and have good and caring thoughts.

We just celebrated the Boy’s Day and we will celebrate the Mothers’ Day soon. The children were busily preparing the crafts to take home.

Children are looking forward for Sports day as we practice the poems and songs for that day. The Sports Day has been rescheduled to the 19th of May (Thursday) for the English Class and 20th (Friday) for the Japanese Class. The song sheet was given with March’s newsletter. Please take note that there will be no replacement holiday on the following Monday because our Sport Day is not on Sunday as planned in Yearly Calendar.

During the June holidays, Junko sensei and Teacher Thian will be the speakers for Malaysia Early Childhood Education Teachers’ Training. They had been busy preparing and organizing the event. They are glad that they can share ideas with more teachers and parents about early childhood education that is child-centered and holistic. All of you are most welcome to join the training to understand more about child development and how adults can support and nurture for their health, growing and learning. Teacher Thian will send more details about the training in the WhatsApp Parents’ Group.

 Kodomo-no-hi / Boys’ Day (9th May)

It is a Japanese custom for families with boys to put up the koinobori, or carp streamers, in their garden or on the roof on this day.          The koinobori carps appear to be swimming vigorously against the current as they flutter in the wind.  This symbolizes that boys should face and overcome their personal challenges with the same positive spirit.

This year at Nania, we celebrated this event on 9th May 2022.  The children made a koinobori  and a Samurai hat as part of their class activities and take them home on that day.
