Dear parents,

After the Chinese New Year, the class have recorded full attendance for most of the days. Even though Chinese New Year is over but the children still carry the festive mood into the class. During free play time, the boys imitate the lion dance as they play the drum while the girls sing Chinese New Year songs in the other corner.

We are now in the second month of the year and there are new dynamics in the class. The new comers have found their peer group to play with. Every morning, the big children will begin their creative play which the younger ones will participate in. They build boats with chairs that sail them to various places in the world. They also set up shops to sell food and drinks. On other days, they portray hospitals with doctors and patients. Sometimes we delay the clear up time in order to give them a longer time for play.

Hence, we seek parents’ cooperation to send your children before or by 9.00 am. This enables the children to finish their morning artistic work and still have enough time to play. We have also observed that children tend to be moody and difficult when they arrive late.

The 5 older children have waited eagerly for their turn to become the big children in the class. They know it’s their turn to do all that the previous big children have done that is weaving, skipping, writing, reciting poems, learning the Malay ‘suku-kata’, English alphabet, numbers and binding their own book.

We started with skipping as a way to recognise numbers. They are trying hard to skip with both legs. At a later stage we will introduce ball bouncing as it is good for their eye, ear and hand co-ordination.
