Half a year has passed us by. I have seen wonderful growth and development in the children both physically and mentally.
The youngest children are becoming more and more independent. They get along well with the bigger children in the class and play creatively with them. They can change and put away their own personal belongings neatly and eat on their own. Often they are ready ahead of the others when we prepare to go to lunch.
Once there was a friend from this age group who was sad. I took the opportunity to approach a friend from her age group to comfort her. Together with another friend, they immediately went to hold her hands and that gave her the reassurance she needed that day. She cheered up after that and I was touched by the caring attitude that these young girls showed towards their friend.
The middle group of children needs some supervision and encouragement to get ready whenever there are changes of activities in the daily class rhythms. They are active and creative. So, they are so engaged in their play that they need more time and guidance to clear up. However, watching their creative plays often make the teachers happy. They are bonding with each other and creating the precious childhood memories with their friends.
The big children in the class have grown capable and confident. Thus they have been entrusted to be ‘teacher’ during lunch hour. They serve their friends and learn the lunch habits of their peers as well as the 2 five- years-olds who sit together with them at lunch. Throughout lunch they bond as they munch!
They are also eager to learn to read and write. They have learnt some basic words and will move on to be learning words in longer sentences from now onwards.
I have started fasting during this Ramadan Month. So, Teacher Stella and Teacher Elina are with the children during lunch.
This June, our garden provided us with an abundance of fruits. The children loved the bananas that we harvested and ate. Now they are looking forward to tasting the rambutans which are ripening gradually.
July will be a busy month at Nania. We have many birthday celebrations and we are looking forward to the Lantern Festival celebration as well.
Currently the children are preparing their own lanterns for that night and practising songs, poems and dances in the class. We have also enclosed herewith a step to step guide on the making of lanterns that you may want to make for their siblings.
