After the school reopen, the classroom and garden are filled with children laughter again. I was very happy to see all the children again. They shared with us about their holidays, who they met or what they did and experienced.
Children also noticed that the rambutan tree in the garden are bearing fruits. Every day they are observing the rambutans colour. They wish the rambutans to turn into red soon so that we could harvest them. This ‘waiting time’ is so important for young children in nowadays world that people get many things instantly from supermarket. The rambutan tree that only produce fruits once a year also give children a sense of yearly rhythm.
A consistent rhythm of life is essential to foster the young child’s sense of security and balance. When life is without a rhythm, then it is difficult for us to know what to expect next. Uncertainty creates anxiety in adults; young children feel that even more. We have observed that children who experience rhythm in their routine are calmer and more confident. They have enough time to enjoy the quiet moments in artistic work and later play creatively and in harmony with their friends. I would like to seek your cooperation to practice punctuality when the children arrive at Nania.
Another gentle reminder to check your children’s bag before they come to Nania. In our policies we explained why we discourage children to bring sweets, toys or give individual gifts for friends. I told children that they only give presents to friends when they say goodbye in farewell or graduation. Yet, some children “secreatly” gave or exchanged gifts.
Currently, the children are practising songs, poems and dances in the class for the coming Lantern Festival. They are busy making their own lanterns using colourful painting paper they have prepared. We enclose herewith a step by step guide on lantern-making in case you might want to make them for their siblings too. Please mark your calendar for the Lantern Festival. We look forward to seeing you and your family on the evening of 18th July (Thursday). Please come on time so that children can join the performance.
Tanabata will be celebrated on the 5th of July. So I am trying to find out and write down the wishes of the children to hang on the bamboo branches for them to bring home to you.
Our assistant cook, Teacher Nicole, will end her service at Nania at the end of this month. She is moving to Singapore to live with her husband who works there. Teacher Akiko, one of the Japanese Class Assistant Teachers will be leaving end of July. We wish them the best for their future undertaking. Meanwhile, we welcome Teacher Valli to join our team. She was a homecare nurse for many years.
