News / Nunn Road / 2024 / March 2024

Dear parents,

We organized a beautiful graduation ceremony in February for eight children, four from each class. We are glad to hear they have started their new journey in big schools and are enjoying their time there. As always, all our graduates are welcome to visit Nania during their school holidays.

Three children, one boy and two girls, have taken on the roles of "big koko" and "big jie-jie" in the Blue Flower class. On March 7th, they helped to pack lunch boxes during our Bento Day event. We, the teachers, are proud of them for completing this special task. They are also enthusiastic about learning new things during the afternoon's big children's lesson.

For the Girls’ Day celebration, the children made beautiful origami Kings and Queens and decorated their ‘seats’ themselves. We then had a photo session of the children before our Girls' Day decoration.

We are delighted to announce that our Blue Flower class recently welcomed 3 new boys and 2 new girls. They are slowly adjusting to the routine of coming to school every day and it is heartwarming to see them become more independent with each passing.

During our recent Bread Day, the new children enjoyed making bread with the rest of the children. All the teachers found the bread to be really yummy!

The children have started practicing for our upcoming Hari Raya Celebration, New Life Celebration, and our Nania Sports Day (to be held on May 19th, Sunday). Every day, we practice together with the Sunflower Class children. The children are happy to mix with everyone. They also play well together during outside playtime.

We kindly remind you that we discourage the use of cartoon characters on clothing or toys during your child(ren) stay at Nania. We aim to foster children’s creativity through nature and various activities and to help them develop their imagination independent of media-induced cartoon fantasy, especially during drawing and creative playtime. Therefore, we encourage the children to say goodbye to cartoon characters at the gates of Nania, so they understand that the characters live outside of our natural world. This will also help them focus on the beauty of nature and enhance their drawing and creative play skills.

When it comes to clothing for children, we encourage comfortable attire without cartoons, oversized logos or wording, or reversible sequins. Additionally, we ask that children not bring toys from home and that parents check their bags before arriving at Nania.

Some younger children may yet learn how to recognize their things when mixed with their friends’ things. Kindly write their names on their things such as towels, hats, and clothes.

Hari Raya Celebration (Friday, 5th April 2024)

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a major festival celebrated by Muslims all over the world. Symbolizing the end of the fasting month, the celebration falls on the first day of Syawal, which is the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. It is celebrated with great merriment and enthusiasm every year, along with a wide array of delicious food shared with relatives, friends, and neighbours, to inculcate the spirit of sharing, caring, and forgiving.

As Malaysia is a multicultural country, we include this celebration in our yearly rhythm as we believe in providing cross-cultural exposure to promote a generation that will progress with mutual respect and understanding and live in harmony in a diverse society.

On April 5th, we kindly request parents to dress the children in Malay traditional clothing. During the day, we will be serving some traditional snacks while sharing stories that explain the significance of Hari Raya. We will also be singing some songs related to the festival.

We will have a one-week break (April 8th – April 12th) for the Hari Raya Public Holidays that will fall on the 10th and 11th of April (subject to changes). Nania will resume on Monday, 15th April.

Celebration of New Life (Friday, 19th April 2023)

Please note the scheduling update: Nania’s New Life Celebration is moved from 16th April (Tues) to 19th April (Fri). Thus, the Nania Calendar that you have received in our Info Pack may not accurately show the correct date/day.

At Nania, another part of our yearly rhythm is celebrating the sanctity of new life. Chickens begin their new life when chicks hatch from eggs and mature into adult poultry. Recently, we spotted a nest that was built among the trees, and we hope that a mother bird will lay eggs in it soon. It would be amazing for children to witness the formation of a new life. In the case of plants, new life starts from buds, which sprout and grow into beautiful plants. The children have already sown the soybean seeds during the Bean Throwing Day. Eventually, we will have some edamame for lunch!

During our New Life celebration, the children will colour eggs in the morning before they watch a puppet show performed by the teachers. The story is about the transformation of a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly, which reflects the beauty of new life.

In the story, a young girl befriends a caterpillar. But alas, one day, she is unable to find the caterpillar. On seeing her plight, a friendly rabbit takes her to a beautiful garden, where she sees a beautiful butterfly flying about. The rabbit tells her that her caterpillar friend has now transformed into that colourful butterfly!  At the end of the puppet show, the children will recite a New Life poem.

After that, the children will start searching for big and small ‘eggs’ (peanuts) in the garden. The kitchen staff hides the ‘eggs’ while the children are busy with the puppet show. The ‘eggs’ that they find will be given to the kitchen staff to be served during lunch.

At the end of the day, they will bring home the eggs that they have coloured that morning.
