Dear Parents,
In the beginning of this month, children were waiting eagerly for the ‘Bento Day’ as they had prepared their paper wallets and “money”. They asked me every day how many more days to Bento Day. On Bento Day morning, the 6-year-old children helped to pack the Bento Boxes. Later, children took turn to buy food from the Bento Shop. A young child remarked his experience by telling me, “Teacher Thian, I enjoyed the shopping.” Children appreciate the special food for that day and they asked for many rounds of ‘okawari’.
We celebrated the Harvest Festival with just the children this month. The room was a bit empty without your presence, never the less, we did our best to make sure the children enjoy the festival experience fully. The festival corner was full with varieties of vegetables. We had cakes for the morning snack and did our ring time in the Japanese Classroom. Later, children enjoyed the puppet show. They watch attentively and so quiet that we can even capture the sound of Japanese class children, who were waiting at the dining area in our video record. We recorded the “Water Dragon” puppet show this year as we would like to share it with you too. I will send you the link to download the puppet show via email soon. Please take note that the puppet show is not for public circulation.
The vegetables that we planted in the garden are just in time for harvest. When we harvested the long beans, I asked some children who were not keen to eat vegetables to send those long beans to Aunty Janet and asked her to cook for us. When Aunty Janet cooked the long beans from the garden or pumkin and egg plants that were once displayed in the display corner, we made an “announcement” to the children. Teachers show our love and appreciation towards these food. With all these settings, children were more willing to try them. Children like to imitate what adults are doing, outwardly and also our inner mood.
I would like to gently remind parents that our arrival time is 8.30 -9am. Children who arrive by 9am can have enough time for their artistic work and continue with creative play for about half an hour. Practicing a rhythmic life is very important for young children as this can give them a sense of security. Moreover, we will need kitchen or admin staff help to receive the late comer while they are busy especially when there is a birthday celebration. I seek your cooperation to drop off your child at English Class side gate latest by 9am.
Time flies and it is time for the English Class graduation. It will be held on the 5th of November (Thursday). This year we have 7 girls graduating. They have made their “Star Crowns”, weaving bags and musical instruments for their big day. They are now practicing their speeches, songs and poems earnestly in the class together with the smaller children. The girls and teachers are looking forward to their big day. To the graduating children’s parents, please mark this important date in your calendar as we appreciate your full attendance and support.
