After the holiday break, we are happy to welcome 2 new children to our class.  The rest of the children readily included them into their daily activities and plays.  During outside play, I can see that they were constantly invited to play in the sandpit, jump on the trampoline, climb the tree, and make colour dyes with flowers and so on. Judging from the daily activities, the new children are slowly becoming part of the class. We expect another two children to join us in October and I’m sure they will be welcomed too.

We celebrated the Moon-cake Festival with the children by making moon-cakes with them.  They eagerly collected the blue flowers used for food dye from the garden during their outside play time. Pandan leaves were used for green food dye.

This year, the big children helped in the moon-cake preparations the day before.  On the day of celebration all the children gathered to make their own moon-cake. The children who had made moon cakes last year were able to help those who were experiencing it for the first time.  They managed to finish making them quickly and we set the table for eating moon-cakes as part of the celebration.  Seeing that the children preferred to eat our own homemade moon-cakes more than the store-bought ones, we have decided to serve only our own handmade moon-cakes next year.

During the afternoon story telling time, I shared the moon-cake festival legend with the children.  Some of them came back to me and told me that, when they looked up onto the moon that night, they could see “Chang Er and the Jade Hare”.

Moving along, the children are practicing songs and poems for the coming Harvest Festival during the morning ring time.  The big children in the class lead the younger ones during practices.

In Nania, we celebrate Harvest Festival to thank Mother Nature for sun, rain and wind.  Through the poems and songs, the children express their gratefulness for the food on their plates, to the farmers who work hard to grow the crops as well as to their parents who lovingly prepare food for them.

We enclosed herewith the Harvest Festival programme and songs for your attention.  Please be on time and we look forward to sharing a wonderful celebration with you.

Teacher Kerry will be away attending the Waldorf Teachers training in Bangkok from the 7th till the 16th of October. She’ll be back in-time to join our Harvest Festival. During her absence, Teacher Stella will assist in the English class.

After the Harvest festival, the children in the English class will be preparing for the graduation ceremony for the 6 year-olds.  For the past few days and after their daily afternoon lessons, the big children have already begun decorating their musical instruments with colourful crepe papers.
