We were very pleased to have all the children and meet family members who attended our Mooncake Festival. The cheerful grandparents, uncles, aunties and siblings present made the festival merrier. We also appreciate the punctual arrival of parents which enabled us to start the presentation on time. Thank you very much.

Due to the unpredictable weather, we decided to put up canopies this year. They were put up a day earlier. The children got excited about it. They heighten their anticipation of the festival.

On the morning of the day of the festival, the children cleaned the chairs, made mooncakes, folded colourful origami lanterns and hung them up as decorations. They worked enthusiastically to set up the place for our festival celebration.

This year we called on the 3 big children, Jonathan, Tzu Yao and Xuan Yik to tell part of the story in the circle. We are impressed by the intensity the 3 boys engaged themselves in telling the story. As they got to the part to shoot down the 10 suns, we can sense the effort General Ho Yi would have made as the boys pulled their bows and held them out the targeted suns. Not everyone may have noticed how one of the archers even twitched his eye to get a more accurate aim before releasing the arrow.

It made us proud to see them tell their part of the story in such confidence. It set a good example for the small children to imitate.

Although it rained during dinner time, the pitter patter of the rain did not affect the children’s mood. Everyone was able to continue enjoying their food under the canopies. We are so relieved to see everyone’s smiling faces.

We were blessed as not too much later, the rain granted safe passage for our Lantern walk. As the recorder music fills the air and alight shower of blessing the lantern procession, there was a beautiful scene of the rows of lantern lights like fireflies floating in air. The glimmering bright patches in the dark was a magical!

The evening closed with a breathtaking singing of Banaha, a Congolese folk song. The harmonious notes accompanied by warm lantern lights was most touching. We believe everyone felt a sense of togetherness brought forth at the closing of the festival.

We thank everyone who kindly helped with carrying chairs, taking care of traffic flow and lent helping hands to hold umbrellas for the children to complete the Lantern walk smoothly. The festival would not have been as successful without your input.

We are now preparing for our Graduation. In the afternoon, after their literacy session, the big children practice their upcoming graduation performance. They also prepare their musical instruments with colourful crepe papers. They remember what the previous big ‘ko-ko’ and che-che’ did with these instruments and are eager to complete them as well.
