We are sure that the children have shared the ‘Bento Day’ [Lunch box] day experience with you all. On that particular day we experienced a power failure in the morning and Aunty Anny had to cook rice using the gas stove instead of the rice cooker. Somehow we managed to prepare all the dishes for the big children on time to pack into the bento container. All the children enjoyed their picnic lunch in the garden on that windy day.

We wonder if parents may have noticed that recently the bread that the children brought home was of a different colour. A portion of organic buck wheat flour was added to the usual recipe. Buck wheat flour contains a significant amount of fibre and helps to slow down the rate of glucose absorption after a meal. It’s also a good source of protein and calcium. We are happy that the children enjoyed the flavour of the new bread.

May will be a busy month for the children as there are many birthday celebrations and events to be planned. In the first week, they will make gifts for Mother’s Day. The Harvest Festival will fall on the 27th of May [Friday]. The children will diligently practice their wonderful songs and dance for the day. We look forward to an enjoyable and fun-filled day with all of you.

Most of you have met the new Assistant Teacher, Teacher Doreen. She is the mother of a teenager and was a teacher in another kindergarten before she joined us. She plans a career with us and desires to become a Class Teacher in future.

We appreciate and thank parents who made time and arrived punctually to join our parents and teachers sharing night. For the information of those who could not make it, we began that night with an “Ayatori” [String game] session followed by sharing about the daily rhythm in the class. At end of each day the children are tired but happy because they have tasted achievement. That’s why they always look forward to the next day’s activities. They also care for each other and never forget to pray for their sick friends who are absent each day. We also talked about the afternoon literacy development lesson with the older children. Later, the parents enjoyed looking at their finished pieces of weaving, finger knitting and lesson books.

We shared the joy of watching the children enjoy Nania’s well planned organic food menu. A few children who would not eat vegetables in the beginning have grown to love them.

We also shared that children who listen to a lot of stories have an enriched life as they carry the passion for story telling into their primary years. We know many of these children have willingly participated in story telling competitions because they are confident they can tell stories that they have heard before.

Then, Teacher Junko shared her thoughts regarding a child’s development.  The last agenda of the night was the Question and Answer session with the parents. We are glad that many parents participated actively in that session and the night ended on a cheerful note. We wish to see more parents turning up next time.
