We had a meaningful and wonderful “New Life’ celebration.  The day was made more meaningful when all the children turned up on time that morning!  Two days earlier, I started to prepare the children by telling them the New Life story where Easter Bunny is one of the main characters.  I find that when we prepare our children ahead of any scheduled event, they look forward to and participate enthusiastically in the activities when the real day arrives. Thus, they enjoyed folding and colouring their origami Easter bunny which they took home that day.

We started the morning with a puppet show.  The teachers presented a show about the friendship between a caterpillar and a girl.  In the story, the girl felt the loss when the caterpillar that she has befriended in the garden went missing after a few days.  She did not know that the caterpillar had turned into a cocoon so she felt sad.  Then, she met a friendly rabbit and the Mr. Gnomes who gave her hope that she would meet find her friend again.  The friendly rabbit took her to a flower garden and when she saw a beautiful butterfly flying there, she sensed that she knew the butterfly from before.

After the puppet show, the children gathered at the dining hall to colour their eggs.  While waiting, we sang the catchy song of “Rabbit Hoppa! Hoosh!.”  Did they hum the catchy tunes at home?

Right after colouring, we got ready and went out to hunt for the big and small Easter eggs at our garden.  They eagerly searched through the garden and excitedly piled up their ‘rewards’ in a basket. We have taken some photos to share with you all. Our pictures captured their beaming smiles as they showcased their collection of eggs.

As I have mentioned, Easter celebration at Nania is about the celebration of new life.  On the Thursday morning, we planted okra in our garden corner.  After one week, we are now able to see okra plants sprouting in the garden bed already.  Soon, our children will be harvesting okra for lunch.

In the month of May, Boys’ day, an annually celebrated day for families in Japan and also Mothers’ day, await us.  Thus, the children are now busily preparing the crafts to take home for both occasions.

Another event will be the Sports and Family’s day which has been fixed on the 21st of May (Sunday).  Please keep that date free to join your child/children for a morning of family fun in the Japanese School hall.
