News / Nunn Road / 2019 / April 2019

Recently we had rain and it brought new life to our surrounding plants. I wonder if you noticed that the Angsana/Burmese Rose Wood Tree was full of beautiful yellow flowers. When the flowers fell, they made an amazing yellow carpet along the road.

Our children are truly observant and they noticed these changes. A few children presented the teachers in the morning with the little flowers that they had picked from the roadside or our garden. Whenever I receive flowers from them, I take a little time to really appreciate the beauty of those tiny creations. And the children are happy that I like the flowers. Everything in nature is a treasure in the eyes of a child.

Last week we celebrated the New Life/Easter Festival at Nania. The children arrived at Nania earlier as they did not want to miss the puppet show.

To begin the celebration, the teachers presented a puppet show about the friendship between a caterpillar and a girl. The children eyes’ were shining when they saw the puppet butterfly, which was the transformed caterpillar, dancing happily with the little girl. After the puppet show, children gathered in the dining hall to colour Easter eggs which they later brought home.

Later, we went out to hunt for the big and small Easter eggs in our garden.  They eagerly searched through the garden and happily piled up their ‘rewards’ in a basket.  The big children helped to shell the big eggs. Those eggs were served during lunch.

Lastly, we planted corn and okra seeds in our garden corner.  We are eagerly waiting for them to sprout. It will be a great experience to watch them grow.

During the morning of this year’s New Life celebration, the teachers found a caterpillar while we were cutting some leaves to decorate the puppet table. The children were so excited to see it. We kept it safe and in the afternoon, it started to spin its cocoon. The children got a good chance to witness this miracle moment as related in the story of our puppet show and also in the poem about the caterpillar that we had been reciting.

In the month of May, Boys’ day and also Mothers’ day awaits us.  Thus, the children are now busily preparing the crafts to take home for both occasions.

Another event will be Family/Sports day which has been scheduled on the 12th of May (Sunday).  Please keep that date free to join your child/children for a morning of family fun in the Penang Japanese School hall. Please come on time on that morning as the children’s presentation will start at 9.00a.m. We enclose herewith the day’s programme for your attention. The song sheet was given with last month’s newsletter.

Please take note that there will be a replacement rest day after the Sports Day. Nania also will be closed from 20-22nd May for Wesak replacement Holiday and Nuzul Al-Quran Holiday (21st is Nania’s holiday).
