News / Nunn Road / 2020 / August 2020

Thank you for your understanding and support throughout the MCO and RMCO periods. Although it was challenging and filled with uncertainties, I felt my inner strength grow as I brainstormed with my colleagues to come up with new arrangements to suit the SOP. We wanted to ensure that the children return to Nania which is a healthy and safe environment. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you as all of you have understood and followed the SOP well. As the number of Covid-19 patients have increased in the Northen region, please continue taking precautionary measures to keep you and family safe and healthy.

Children took about a week to settle into the new class setting and some changes of routine. Now they are at ease and able to keep social distancing with minimal reminders. They practice wearing face masks or face shields and washing hand diligently. Sometimes, the big “jie-jie” reminded their friends if they do not wear the mask properly. The children enjoy drawing or playing with ayatori strings before they start their creative play.

We are in new phrase now where we try to bring in more artistic activities. We started painting this week and we made bread today. I hope you like the bread that your child/children brought home.

During their creative free playtime, the children are separated into different corners which we call colour houses. They play in different houses from day to day. Teachers remind them to stay in their room when they play.

After the morning snack, children play happily in the garden. We allocated different times for outside playtime for the English Class and Japanese class to minimize contact and also to provide more space. The children are happy to find Mr. Frog, Mr. Geji-geji and Ms. Butterflies. They also enjoy playing in the sandpit or chasing each other and running around in the garden. Surprisingly, the children are able to keep to good physical distancing as they are running also.

In Nania, the children experience the rhythm of the year through our festival celebrations. Some of the festivals are celebrated with children in the kindergarten and some festivals are celebrated together with parents. We are sorry that we can’t have celebration with parents at this point of time. However, we continue the festival celebrations with the children. We celebrated Tanabata with the children in the beginning of July. Did all of you read your children’s wishes that were hung on their Tanzaku bamboo branch when they brought them home after Tanabata celebration?

We will celebrate the Mooncake Festival with children on 23rd September (Wednesday). The children have started to collect the blue Butterfly Pea flowers to give Aunty Janet. We will use the flowers to make colour dye for our mooncake. The children will also make their paper lanterns using their painting papers.

We will probably not be able to celebrate the Harvest Festival with parents as we have planned in our yearly calendar. However, we will celebrate the festival on 2nd October (Friday) with the children and we have started to rehearse the songs and poems already in the class during our “Ring Time”. There will be a puppet show during the festival for the two classes but at different times. This is to keep to social distancing for the students. Enclosed with this newsletter are poems and songs for the Harvest Festival and Mooncake Festival.

As the English Class children have settled down, we are ready to welcome more newcomers. Recently, we welcomed George, who is 3+. We still have some places for a few more children. Please help us to spread the word around. Thank you
