It is getting nearer to the end of the year and Christmas will soon be with us. Right now the children are busy practising for the Christmas festival. They are really enjoying singing Christmas songs in English, Japanese and Mandarin.
The focus of our Christmas Festival is to connect the children with their inner being and to cultivate the goodness that lies within them. Christmas is not just receiving presents, having parties and dressing up. It is also about giving and carrying kind thoughts for one another. As part of our Christmas festival, we encourage the children to reflect on the unfortunate situation of other children, i.e. orphans, those who are sick and hungry, etc. In encouraging them to carry a kind thought for them, we hope to lead the children to kindle their inner light and experience the warmth and joy of giving and sharing.
The theme at the display table has changed as well. The “Star Window” is now placed at the centre of the room. Each day before lunch, 3 children will come to the display table. One of them will place handmade animals or gnomes on the display table with caring thoughts while the other children will open the “Star Window”. Each child will have a turn to do the tasks till all the windows are open. Then, we will celebrate the festival together.
As part of the Christmas Festival presentation, each child will carry a candle. The children will make a wish for someone other than themselves as they pass the candle on to be lighted. During practice the children will make beautiful wishes like:-
“I wish sick children can get well soon.”
“I wish every child in the world will be happy - I hope my wish will come true.”
The beatific nature of the children will shine through majestically when each one of them makes their wishes for others. The children will sing the “Song of Prayer” just before we put out the candles. Each day, we are warmly touched by every one of the children at Nania as we prepare for this festival.
In the classroom, the children have also started to weave, draw and decorate their paper “Christmas socks” which they will fill with their beautiful drawings and paintings, and bring them home on the day of the festival. Children will help to make Christmas cookies and wipe all the chairs as part of the festival preparations.
Very soon, 2015 will draw to a close. This also marks our 1st full year in Nania York [Branch]. We have spent a wonderful year with the children. We have also learnt a lot through their heavenly eyes. There is always hope, new life in each moment of each day. They forgive and forget the past. They do not worry about the future. They enjoy every moment of the present. Children had laughter and tears, happy and sad moments, fights and caring moments together. We are encouraged very much by their growth and change. We eagerly look forward to seeing them after the break.
We wish all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We hope you will enjoy the holidays with your children.
