News / Nunn Road / 2020 / January 2020

The year 2020, which sounded so far off to me when I was a teenager, is really here at last! I first connected it with Wawasan 2020 then.

For me as an educator, I am glad that more parents are aware that early childhood is the precious time for children to be childlike. So, they seek child-oriented education that gives their children more time and space to explore the world.

When the children came back after the school holidays, they noticed that our gates had been repainted and the floor of the English classroom had been renovated. Have you noticed that the 3 pots of orchids hanging above the fishpond are blossoming to welcome you?

As usual, we teachers came back to Nania a few days before the school reopened to clean the space, wash and sunbathe all the toys, dye the cloths and repair toys. We got everything ready to welcome back the children.

This year, we welcomed 7 new children to the English Class. Two 6-year-old girls, two 5-year-old boys, one 5-year-old girl, one 4 -year-old girl and one girl turning 3 joined us. The children who are 5 and 6 settled down easily. The youngest girl is still experiencing separation anxiety and needs more help from teachers to feel secure. Another 3-year-old girl will join us in February.

Now we have 2 big ‘koko’ and 7 big ‘jie jie’ in the class. They have started their afternoon literacy time.  They are eager to do what they have seen the big children do last year.  They have also started to weave happily during their free time. However, a boy is going to bid us farewell in February as he will join St. Christopher International school together with his two elder sisters. We wish George all the best for his future undertaking.

Meanwhile, the 5-year-old children have become very creative in their plays. They play harmoniously at the kitchen corner while the big children are having their lesson time in the afternoon. They also welcome the younger children to join in their play.

For this new school term, I seek your cooperation to bring your child to Nania punctually. Arriving to class by 9a.m. gives children enough time to do artistic work and play. When children come late, they either miss out the artistic work or do not have enough time for creative play.

We have morning gathering where we greet each other and pray for our absentees. If your child is absent because of sickness, please inform me (H/p no: 016-4039982) before 8.30a.m. so that we can wish him or her speedy recovery. For new parents, I don’t attend to my handphone after 8.30am. as I will be in the classroom engaging with the children. So, you have to contact the office (04-2265480) if it is later than 8.30am.

Now all the children are geared up and earnestly practicing the poems and songs for the coming Chinese New Year Festival.  The children are trying their very best during the practice sessions. However, during the actual day, some young children may need your encouragement to participate bravely in front of all the adults present that day.

Please take note that we will make Ribbon Kuih on the 20th Jan (Monday) instead of 17th Jan as mentioned in the December 2019 newsletter.

I look forward to seeing you and your family on the 21st Jan (Tuesday).  Attached herewith is the programme and song sheet for your attention. For your information, we are open on the 22nd (Wednesday) before we take a break for the Chinese New Year holiday from the 23rd till the 29th Jan. We re-open on 30th Jan (Thursday).

All of us at Nania would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’.
