We hope you and your child have had an enjoyable holiday. July has been a month when many ex-students came to visit. Avinash, Edelynn, Cheng Yi and Cheng Hau dropped in and the children who know them were excited to see them. They missed their old friends.  So, they had a great time enjoying each other’s company again.

Festivals are a celebration of the seasons in a year and they connect us to the world around us. This annual rhythm can strengthen the physical body of the young child. In Nania, we create simple and meaningful festivals that not only bring joy and excitement to the children but we also tell them the essence of these celebrations. Our display corner changes as we welcome every festival.

During our recent Hari Raya celebration, we ate traditional ‘kuih’ like ‘ketupat’ and also some cookies. We shared with the children the meaning behind ‘puasa’ [fasting] and our appreciation for water and food after they have abstained from it for a whole day. The children weaved ‘ketupat’ shells to decorate the classroom. They also learned to sing some Hari Raya songs in Malay. Then, teachers served ‘nasi lemak’ for lunch.  Aunty Anny cooked rice using organic virgin coconut oil and pandan leaves so the rice tasted like ‘nasi lemak’ with fish and organic peanuts. Children enjoyed the snacks and lunch on that day.

We believe most of the parents have noticed Teacher Yen. There has been a mutual transfer between Teacher Yen from Nania Nunn Road and Teacher Doreen. Teacher Yen has been with Nania Nunn Road since the end of last year. She is in her early thirties and loves children very much. Prior to joining us, she did volunteer work with the special needs children at the Asia Community Service [ACS] while still holding down a job. Our children have grown to love her too.
