Teacher Kerry and I waited eagerly to welcome all our children returning from their holidays.  We missed them and looked forward to seeing them again.

We came back during the holiday to clean the classroom, wipe and sun the toys.  As usual, while going about our chores, Teacher Kerry and I centered our conversation on the children in the class.  We shared our wonderment at the change we observed in our children and also our admiration of the creative energy and thoughts that they constantly bring into their daily artistic activities, free play and etc.

Our sharing reminds me to seek your cooperation to send your children before 9am daily.  Lately we observed that more children are arriving late. These late comers usually cannot concentrate fully on their morning artistic activities because they are anxious to join their friends who are already playing.  Later, they refuse to clear up and are moody because they did not have enough time for play.

On a brighter note, we actually see and find new life growing in Nania’s garden.  We are embraced by joyful feelings as we observe, wait and get ready to harvest the long beans, okra and soy beans from the vegetable patch.  Even the rambutan branches are hanging low as they are weighed down with an abundance of fruits. The children are looking forward to the fruits turning yellow and then red because it would finally be time to enjoy eating the rambutans.

As for the harvested vegetables, the children enjoyed them during lunch after they thanked Aunty Janet for cooking them.

In the midst of all these, the most exciting discovery was when we realized a beautiful bird have laid two exquisite eggs in its nest on top of the long bean plant.  Unfortunately the eggs disappeared after a few days of continuous heavy rain.

On a somber note, we had to say goodbye to one of our rabbits, Snowy, who died of old age. The children held a simple goodbye ceremony for Snowy by placing a flower and saying a prayer in its memory.

We were glad when Jenae and her mum Jessie gave us a new rabbit. Our new pet is living happily with the rest of the rabbits now.  The children named the rabbit ‘Panda’ as its eyes are surrounded by a small black patch similar to that of a panda.

Lastly, we would like to invite all parents to the Nania Parents’Evening on the 27th of April (Friday).  Please come by 7.15pm as we will start at 7.30pm and end by 9.00pm. On the agenda are issues related to child development and class experience.  I will also give a brief insight into the activities that we have with the big children during their afternoon literacy hour.  Moreover, parents can also take this opportunity to meet each other.  I look forward to seeing all of you.
