Thank you for sharing a precious Sunday morning with us in the Japanese School’s hall for our Sport’s/Family’s day.  Gauging from the turnout and response, I am truly glad that you have enjoyed your time both with us as well as your child/children. The siblings present on that day supported us by participating earnestly in all the events.

I want to give a round of applause to all of you for taking part in our games spontaneously.  Your enthusiastic participation so encouraged us  that in a blink of an eye; it was already time to go home.  We want to thank those who lent a helping hand by carrying chairs and equipments.  Many thanks also go out to the committee members for staying back to clean up the hall.

Here is a summary of my experience at the Asia Pacific Waldorf Teacher’s Conference in Korea.

Overview

It was spring in Korea but it was still very cold. The country is beautiful and the people are friendly and helpful. I was fortunate to see the beautiful Cherry Blossoms for the first time in my life.

The conference started from 8 am in the morning and ended about 10.30 pm at night. We had workshops in the mornings and afternoons. The nights were reserved for the cultural sharing of songs and dances from the participating countries. This year we had the opportunity to view various folktales on how the origin of man on earth.

Chithra and I, with some help from our fellow friends from the conference, managed to perform a puppet show based on our wonderful Easter Story written by Teacher Junko.

From the workshop

For the kindergarten children, the emphasis is on the ‘rhythm of time and rhythm of space’.

Rhythm of time

As in Nania, we have planned the children’s rhythms from the moment they step into the kindergarten until they go home.  Likewise at home, you are to continue with the rhythms that you have planned for them for example, meal time, nap time, play time and finally sleeping and waking up times.

Rhythm of space

Outdoor games that includes: tree climbing, sand playing, water carrying, trampoline jumping, running games in the garden space and etc.  Children also need to be involved in the cleaning, washing, cooking and baking exercises.

The key to early learning is to let the children crawl, climb and run a lot till they are 7 years old.

In the olden days people learn through listening to stories only. Thus, the children in Nania are learning a lot too through songs, poems and stories
