I thank you for coming to our harvest festival. Again and again, I am truly amazed at the skill with which the 5 big children in the class guided the smaller ones during their performance that day. They learned well by imitating the teachers during practices. Finally, they stood in front of all of you singing and doing the songs and movements. The highlight of the Festival was their ability to recite the long poem “The Carrot Story”.

I also hope that you enjoyed the hot bread which was made using organic flour. Ask Aunty Anny if you need the recipe.

Generally, the children here eat well and we have more and more children able to eat and enjoy the daily vegetables that Aunty Anny prepared. Their favourites are the brocolli, cauliflower, cabbage with carrot and french beans. So, parents, you may cook their favourite vegetables at home too.

After the Harvest festival, we immediately transformed the colours in the display corner to green and yellow with candles and handmade “ketupat” as Hari Raya is approaching. The children who have experienced this before know that Hari Raya Puasa is coming.

The children made ‘’Paper ketupat” and we have hung them at our entrance as Raya decoration. The children felt proud of their own craft and enjoyed the process of them by hand.

Today, we ‘celebrated’ Hari Raya Puasa. We ate traditional ‘kuih’ like ‘ketupat’ and also some cookies. We shared with the children the meaning behind ‘Puasa’ [fasting] and their appreciation for water and food after they have abstained from it for a whole day. They also learned to sing some Hari Raya songs in Malay. Then, we teachers served them ‘nasi lemak’ for lunch.  Aunty Anny cooked rice using organic virgin coconut oil, pandan leaves and butterfly pea flower to give the rice an attractive blue color.  So the ‘nasi lemak’ tasted wonderful with fish and organic peanuts. Children enjoyed the snacks and lunch today.

After this week there will be a two-week break. During the holidays, our teachers will be attending the Waldorf Education Workshop in Kuala Lumpur. The workshop is about the Twelve Senses, Four Temperaments and Eurythmy. The teachers are looking forward to attend the workshop. Many other participants from throughout Malaysia will be attending as well.

I would appreciate it if all parents could keep the activity page of this newsletter somewhere close. It is so that you do not miss out on any activities that we have planned for the following month.

Lastly, we hope to welcome back all the children in good health after the holidays.  So, happy holidays to everyone!
