Right after our Harvest Festival, Teacher Kerry and I gradually got ready the items necessary for the Graduation ceremony. The graduating children also helped by preparing their own things like the musical instruments, their star crowns and etc.  Together with the younger children, they practised their Graduation presentations diligently. By the eve and on the morning of the big day, we added the final touches to our decorations with the help of Teacher Chithra.  At last, the class room was well adorned and decorated with flowers.

As soon as they arrived, the children exclaimed at the transformation before they proceeded to play in the Japanese classroom for that morning.  The 5 graduating children stayed back in the English classroom and waited calmly for their special day to begin.

After the arrival of their parents and Teacher Junko, the graduating children took charge of the day by reciting poems, delivering meaningful speeches and singing action songs while playing on their handmade musical instruments.  They also invited the smaller children to perform with them. Then, the younger children co-operated by sitting as quietly as possible throughout the graduation ceremony. After they played their part, they dearly congratulated their ‘ko-ko’ and ‘che-che’.

Two weeks before the graduation ceremony, one of the graduating children fell sick and was absent for a week.  Her mum shared that the child was very cooperative and was able to endure bitter medicine because she was determined to get well and attend her graduation ceremony.  1 week before the graduation ceremony, another child caught a sickness that caused both her legs to swell and she couldn’t walk.  We were not sure whether she could join us on the actual day. Without any complaints, the remaining 4 willingly went through some last minute changes to their performance in order to include her and make her more comfortable if she turned up.

She brought tears to my eyes when I saw her walking upright on the actual day.  In fact the mum informed me that she still could not walk the day before. Nevertheless through determination and courage, she was able to do exactly what we have practised.

To the parents of these graduating children, we thank you for sharing with us your wonderful stories of your children.  We are glad to know that your child has benefitted from coming to Nania. They have become confident and caring towards others. Your appreciation inspires us to continue nurturing these wonderful children that we have.

To the graduating children, Teacher Kerry and I love you and will always remember you.  We cherish each and every moment that we have spent together.  We are touched by the love and concern that you have shown to your friends. We are glad to be given the opportunity to be your early childhood teacher and be part of your growing up years.  You have graduated and are moving on to another milestone of your life.  May you always remember the wonderful times that you have had at Nania.  Please come back to visit us whenever you can.

We have started to rehearse for the Christmas Festival. We hope to see you and your family on that day.
