News / Nunn Road / 2012 / September 2012

We are going into the last term of school for the year 2012.  As of now, the children are practicing poems and songs for the coming Harvest Festival.

In Nania, we celebrate Harvest Festival with a thankful heart to Mother Nature for sun, rain and wind.  Through the poems and songs, the children express their gratefulness for the food on their plates, to the farmers who work hard to grow the crops as well as to their parents who lovingly prepare food for them.

I have noticed that the new children are actively learning the songs and movements from the rest of the children.  Like before and as always, the big children in the class will guide the rest of the children during the day’s presentation.  Hence, they are practising diligently now.

Teacher Kerry will be away attending the Waldorf Teachers training in Bangkok from the 1st till the 12th of October thus she is unable to join us this time.  However, I believe that the children are ready to show you their capability and enthusiasm during their presentations.  Please give them your full support on that day.

For the 2 weeks during Teacher Kerry’s absence, Teacher Stella will assist the English class.

After the Harvest festival, the children in the English class will be preparing for the graduation ceremony of the 6 year-olds.  For the past few days and after their daily afternoon lessons, the big children have already begun decorating their musical instruments with colourful crepe papers.

We wish to inform that we have given away the 2 baby rabbits to Esther as she wishes to have them.  We had a naming ceremony for the remaining 2.  The English class named the grey one ‘Greynie’ while the Japanese class named the brown one ‘Ribbon-dango’.  Daily they feed the baby rabbits and are amazed at their quick growth.

Teacher Junko has been training the teachers and parents who wish to know more about Waldorf education since the beginning of this year.  During one of the Saturday training sessions, a group of teachers from Butterworth shared with us the recipe for making the ‘snow skin moon-cake’.

We then let the children try the blue and green coloured moon-cakes during the following day’s afternoon snack. Judging by their positive response, we decided to make moon-cakes together with them this year and let them take the moon cakes home to share with you.

Children were shown the two colours during lunch time.  After that, they plucked from the garden the blue flowers for Aunty Janet to keep as colouring for the moon-cake.  As for the green colour, we used pandan leaves.

During one of the morning artistic activities, they cut and made their own lantern using origami paper.  The colourful yarn strings attached on the lanterns were made by the big children.

On the moon-cake making day, the big children helped in the morning preparations.  After that all the children gathered and made their own moon-cake.  We like to thank you for your wonderful response.

I have also shared the story about moon-cake festival with the children during the afternoon story time.  Perhaps you could ask them to tell you the story during the actual day.
