We were very happy to see everybody’s smiling faces during our Moon cake Festival. This was the first “big” festival in this new place. We were glad that our principal Junko Suzumoto and some of the teachers from Nania Nunn Road came to lend a helping hand on the day.

We were really thankful that the sky was clear after a few rainy days and that it did not rain on the evening of the Mooncake Festival. We believed it was because the children prayed hard almost everyday for Mr.Rain to stay away. We also hung a pair of “Sunshine Dolls” in the classroom to remind Mr. Rain to take a rest during the festival evening.

Children were excited that morning. They were busy making the colour paper lanterns for the garden decoration. Then, they hung the colourful paper lanterns in our garden. We were really happy to see them helping each other and busy running to every corner in this big garden. Their favourite Uncle Balan lifted them to reach the higher branches of the tree and thus, they managed to hang all the lanterns. The garden was transformed into a colourful wonderland!

Some parents have shared with us that their children sang wonderfully at home. So for the children who were reluctant to perform in front of the crowd, we will continue to encourage them. We believed that one day they will confidently participate in the performances.

The moon cake that the parents enjoyed during the festival snack time was made by our After School Care [primary school] children. Teacher Stella, the Assistant Cook from Nania Nunn Road had collected the blue flowers [Butterfly Pea] and pandan leaves from Nania Nunn Road’s beautiful garden to use for food dye. She then guided the children make the winter skin moon cakes. The kindy children also gathered on the morning of the festival day to make their own mooncakes too. We were glad that the after school care children helped in the moon cake preparations a few days before.

We hope you enjoyed the festival as much as we did. Enclosed with this Newsletter are photos of some of the wonderful moments.

During our school holidays, we waited eagerly to welcome all our children returning from their holidays.  We missed them and looked forward to seeing them again. During the Staff Work Day, we teachers and kitchen staff cleaned the classroom, wiped and sun dried the toys. Our chatter was about the children in Nania.  We found out all of them had shown progress compared to the first day they stepped into the class. Most of the younger ones had experienced separation anxiety. However, these children had adjusted to the longer hours and the class rhythms.
