Thank you very much for sharing a delightful evening with us at Nania’s garden during our Mooncake Festival. Your participation made our evening more wonderful. I would like to thank all of you who took effort to arrive on time. It was great that our principal Teacher Junko came to join us too. This is the biggest festival in Nania York, where both the Pre-school and After School Care children come together to celebrate the festival. The day before the festival, the children made snow skin mooncakes and folded colorful origami lanterns. We were really happy to see them helping each other as they ran to every corner in the garden to hang up the lanterns. When they finished, the garden was a riot of color with colored lanterns bursting into “bloom”.
Earlier in the day, we were doubtful whether it was possible to go for the Lantern walk due to the haze. Luckily, our prayers were answered as the haze lifted after a scattered shower of blessing.
The enthusiastic performance by the pre-school children was followed by a heartening drama performance by the after school care children. The young ones did very well and then seated themselves comfortably after their performance just like in an open theatre to watch the after school care children’s drama performance. I hope you all enjoyed the Chang Er tale we presented.
Lanterns are the one of the notable part of the festival. The children love to tote their handmade lanterns. This year we could walk longer than the previous years due to the clear weather. It is a definitely remarkable spectacle when the children gather to walk with their lanterns. The evening closed with a melodious rendering of “Sing your way Home” by younger children while the older children hummed along. It was a glorious moment! I really believe the children did their best on that night. Again, this Mooncake festival will be another memorable moment for the children.
Last but not least, our sincere thanks to everyone who kindly helped by carrying chairs and directing traffic flow.
Deepavali is just around the corner. We will transform the display corner with beautiful gold embroidered sarees, colourful bracelets, coloured wax lamps and a Rangoli [coloured rice motif].
We will relate a Deepavali story to the children and sing Deepavali songs together for our Deepavali celebration. For the morning snack, we will have ‘’muruku’’ and Indian cookies. For Lunch we will have Tomato rice, Kurma curry [made of poppy seeds and cashew nuts], fried mixed vegetables and ‘’papadum’’ [Indian crispy cracker] by our cook, Aunty Anny. We encourage children to wear Indian traditional costumes, if you have any, to intensify the mood of the celebration.
